Finally, he grabbed the attention of a breeder by the name of Joyce Sroufe and she helped him to take the appropriate steps in gaining recognition for the new breed. They wrote the very first version of the Savannah breed standard in 1996 to present to the TICA. In 2001, the TICA finally accepted the breed and registered it as a new domesticated cat.
