It is difficult to find a book that provides reliable information on these popular snakes. As pets, the garter and ribbon snakes are very common in Europe, a little less so here in America, but is still widely held. The only other text I know dealing with these snakes are either terribly outdated or off-target (ie, spend more time discussing broad issues snake and less time dealing with the ribbon garter snake features). Dick Bartlett writes a good book about these snakes, but Philip Purser is far superior, in my opinion. I have kept these snakes (various species), except for over the years, and this book answers so many questions / issues raised during my snake conservation operates. I wish I had years ago. Surely soild investment for anyone interested in knowing more about these demure little snakes and their care in captivity.
