If there is one part of a dog’s health that dog owners know can be overlooked, it’s the quality of sleep that their dogs receive. It’s much the same with humans. How much you enjoy a day is largely decided right when you wake up. If you slept well and long, then you will feel much better than if you slept poorly and not enough. A dog bed can help your dog have the best sleep of his life, and you shouldn’t buy a cheap bed for your dog. They can and will feel a difference, so you shouldn’t skimp on the bed. There are plenty of personalized, orthopedic, and heated dog beds for you to choose from, so there is a ton of variety to fit your dog’s exact needs.

Health Benefits

The biggest benefit of a dog bed concerns your dog’s health. Getting a proper amount and proper type of sleep leads to better health overall and can help reduce the risk of many different diseases. Human beings do lots of little things to help improve our health. We might take multivitamins. We might invest in air purifiers. Do something inexpensive for your dog, and improve your dog’s health dramatically. Purchasing a dog bed is such an easy and cheap way to help your dog sleep properly that it’s really a no painer for dog owners.

Orthopedic support helps to uniformly distribute your dog’s weight so that it never finds itself in an uncomfortable position. Especially for arthritic and older dogs in general, proper body support can mean the difference between feeling tired and sore all day or being energetic and comfortable. Likewise, heating can help improve blood flow and reduce swelling in joints, providing further relief. Dog beds are one of the cheapest forms of relief for arthritis in dogs, and they are also one of the cheapest forms as well. Medicine can become very expensive, and it’s not always as effective (of course, the best relief is probably a combination of the two).

No matter the size of your dog, there is a dog bed built just for him. Choose from dozens of materials, ranging from basic fapic to memory foam. Skimping on the materials might be a way to save some money, but even investing just a little more can mean the difference between a good night’s rest and more nights of tossing and turning uncomfortably. In fact, some features like orthopedic support are no longer considered luxuries but genuinely necessary for your dog’s health. Choosing a dog bed can take a while as you take into account all of the specific needs of your favorite canine friend, but your dog will surely appreciate the effort after just one night.

Why not get the top professional advice of pet shops and pet supplies on the site of dogs for your dear pet.

Tweet This Post

Quick trivia: Arthritis is not a new ailment specific only to humans. Dinosaurs from way back suffered from this degenerative and painful disease even before we even knew about it. Interesting right? Yes, we are not the only species that suffer from arthritis. Many times, our pets succumb to this as well.

Canine arthritis is very similar with human arthritis. It causes stiffness in the joints and muscles because of the damaged cartilage and joints sustained mostly because of the wear and tear of an active hounds life. That is why you need to exercise more care when they are about 10 years old. If this is your animal, it’s alright. There is an effective dog arthritis medicine that you can use to aid in easing their pain.

As previously mentioned, this disease is generally caused by old age; but there are cases where even puppies suffer from a kind of arthritis also. When younger dogs get their legs injured and have not been properly treated; or when an infection or sickness sets in that complicates an already delicate health issue, arthritis can occur. You need to look out for some signs and symptoms of this disease so you can prevent it from progressing further.

What are some of the signs that your pet is suffering from this disease? Notice the animals behavior. See if he is restless, limited in his movement, or flinches whenever you touch him. Also observe whether or not they seem to have a change in their physique. Some of these symptoms are actually very similar to dog Lyme disease so you need an accurate diagnosis before you try to obtain a pet arthritis medicine for him.

When your hound has been examined as to the sickness that he has, you should have not only the correct pet arthritis medicine, you also need to plan his healthiest lifestyle. This means you must create the right diet, rich in vitamins and nutrients that will aid him fight the effects of this disease.

People with arthritis have been helped with generous servings of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin C. It is highly probable that this will prove true for the arthritic canine as well. Add a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and fish oils to his meals. Include helpful herbs like mussels, stinging nettles, yucca and alfalfa with what you serve him. These natural herbs enhance joint health and help in detoxification.

Glucosamine Sulphate and Chondroitin Sulphate are two excellent supplements that provide lubrication in the suffering canines joints and cartilage, thus easing his pain. Non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are what are used to treat canine arthritis. These are often taken with supplements as prescribed by the vet.

Bear in mind that while human arthritis is very similar to that of canines, the treatment should not be the same. Never attempt to treat your ‘ disease without consulting your vet first. A dog arthritis medicine should always be under the supervision of a licensed vet to administer the specific dosage and frequency needed. Take regular trips to the vet for his best health.

Pet owners are searching for the pet arthritis medicine that will change to their suffering dog’s condition. Look no further! HealthyHappyDogs.com offers the most effective dog arthritis medicine that veterinarians recommend.

Tweet This Post

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, an instantly recognizable commercial painter who has given the world the series of Dogs Playing Poker, was born in 1844, into a family of abolitionist Quaker farmers and was named after one of the most eloquent orators against slavery, nicknamed (with provisional anthropomorphism) “The Lion of White Hall.” Nicknamed “Cash” by friends and kin, he had no official training whatsoever, but was very active, publishing drawings in papers before he was 20.

In 1903 he was commissioned a series of paintings on his favorite theme: mastiffs and Saint Bernards engaged in human activity. On nine of the sixteen paintings well bred and mannered dogs drink beer and whiskey, smoke cigars and pipes, and play five-card draw poker. Furry and in fur coats or flannel suits, they usually fill a cozy room with the only source of light being a shaded lamp above the table.

The players are established bourgeois, and seem to be reasonably well-behaved gentlemen, perhaps not altogether tame, but proper enough. The paintings reflect approximately the same period as that depicted in Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America. But Coolidge does not focus on the greed and violence of illegal underground clubs; rather, he shows poker finally emerge from the criminal murk into a more homely reality where decent members of society probably never bet more than a few symbolic cents and allowed themselves a few drops of bourbon when their wives weren’t looking. Poker was becoming common entertainment for most American men, not a means to make quick and dangerous money.

As early as 1875, respectable persons attended major night-time poker sessions. At least one monthly, Poker Chips, was dedicated to the game and most periodicals published related articles. At the turn of the century, unified rules for draw-poker were for the first time spread among all poker clubs. Reporters suggested that baseball had ceased to be the national game.

Gradually, unrelated to any criminal associations, the ability to play poker and the ability to wield a gun became the staple talents of any real man. Men who played good poker were usually likewise good soldiers, good sheriffs, and good politicians. In the spring of 1918, in Europe, the game was the most popular mode of entertainment among Harry Truman and his two million troops. Truman perfected his draw and stud poker as an artillery officer. When the peace treaty was signed, waiting to be shipped home, he and his combat friends spent the time at endless games of poker which they continued even after arrival home.

At that time, the prevailing view was to equate the ability to take risks at the table, to bet big, play smart, and bluff, (profitably, of course!) to the ability to survive in battle, in dangerous occupations like law enforcement, or do any job requiring a good brain and strong muscles.

Cash Coolidge was around at a time that gave him every opportunity to observe the sort of person, the clothes, the card games and the milieu in which all of these elements came together in basement clubs that gave rise to the essence of his art. Through his art, which consisted of a vivid imagination and anthropomorphic humor, he created a representation of the life of the bourgeoisie at the time enjoying a game that had been around for more than 200 years.

One of the most delightful phases of being a dog owner and lover is waiting for your lady’s pregnancy. Apart from this excitement comes the need to be in-the-know of the mood swings that could happen and is going on to your dog. For brand new dog lovers, it may be a slightly anxiety-inducing as you mentally fiddle with it, if your dog is really expecting a baby or if you are just plainly over-eager and hallucinating.

You cut the chase whenever you are prepared for these tell-tale signs. After all, if having a pet is costly enough, you would like to fully prepare financially and emotionally if your furry friend is pregnant. One among the things that you need to busy yourself with is to arrange an appointment with your veterinarian. The veterinarian will be running several tests to determine this but in most cases it would take several weeks prior to when the pregnancy can be thoroughly verified. Before that time, there are various things you can do to verify your pet’s maternity. Do not be troubled though, this is not at all hard to manage and does not need to be as complex or energy consuming as finding out how to accomplish your own custom website design. You will have somewhere around 65 days before your pet gives birth so you surely have all the time for observation.

Sign number 1: Be attentive of any shifts in your dog’s behavior. Pregnant dogs are less playful than usual and at times, could be distant as a consequence of the physiological changes that they are going through. She may plan to sleep more than usual and would want to be left by herself in her corner. If she is normally fond of your physical affection, she may might seem aloof at one time and may only prefer to be patted at times. There could also be times when she would want more than her fair share of affection. It would be more or less similar to the behavior of a conceiving woman meaning she will be more prone to ‘mood swings.’

Indicator number 2: Her urge for food will vary. The moment your family dog first starts getting pregnant, it will be typical for her to lose her appetite. As the pups grow up, her preference for food will start to bounce back immensely. She will feel hungry more often and also more thirsty. Be sure that you feed her more and that there is a regular supply of fresh, cool water. Preferably, she should be turned to a diet more in protein. You may swap her back to puppy food as this is higher in protein when compared with adult dog food. Also right now, her nipples will become bigger and suppler. In addition to this, is the notable increase in your pet’s size; she will have the baby bump.

If all these symptoms are present, you should bring your pet dog back to the veterinarian. There are several tests that can be administered to verify the pregnancy of your dog. One of these tests is the ultrasound. This is also safe as it is non invasive and will your pet with the least amount of discomfort. Also at about 25 days into the pregnancy, the pet’s body would release relaxin and this would show up in endocrinological tests. You can also play doctor if you own your stethoscope as you would be fortunate to hear the puppies’ heartbeats. Just don’t forget- the heartbeats will be unable to determine exactly how many puppies she delivers. An x-ray test may be performed to properly find out the number of pups that the family pet is having. On the other hand, this is not recommended as the radiation sometimes have unintended effects on the pups.

As your pet is nearing her due date, you may find a white and odorless discharge. Also watch out for her actions as this would inform you if she is about to whelp (give birth). She could be sleepless at times and would start scratching the flooring. This is an age-old instinct that she should start getting ready for a home for her pups. She can become more sleepless and would rather have dark and quiet places in the home. She may even bring her chosen bone or her toys to this place as she prepares for a new home just for her puppies. Take a look at her temperature every so often. Twenty four hours before she gives birth, her temperature could quickly drop to 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

These guidelines and signs are surefire ways for you to determine if your canine is pregnant. This should truly be a special day for the entire family along with for your family pet so be sure you are fully prepared for your dog’s conception.

For any existing dog lover with positive maternal or paternal inclinations, the wait for your own pups is a fun filled time while you get ready for the newbies of the household. As with other things that are exciting you would want to know exactly when it is taking place. For first time dog lovers, it may be a somewhat anxiety-inducing as you mentally play with it, if your dog is really pregnant or if you are just simply over-eager and imagining things.

To keep you from thinking about the so many what-ifs, continue reading to be familiar with the signs that could diagnose pregnancy. Though keeping new additions to your dog family is an amazing thought, you would have to psyche yourself mentally yet must also prepare for that added financial bucket. The very first thing that you will do if you are suspecting of pregnant state is to take your pet dog to the veterinarian. Nonetheless, it may take many weeks just before the veterinarian can fully make certain or detect the pregnancy. At the same time, you can also carry out your own ‘testing’ to ascertain your pet’s pregnancy. Do not worry too much though, this is relatively simple to manage and need not be as difficult or energy consuming as knowing how to complete your own custom website design. Seeing that doggy pregnancy lasts more or less 63 to 65 days, you should have an adequate amount of time to spot the pregnancy.

The first thing that you should do is monitor your dog’s behavior. At the time of pregnancy you will see various changes in how your pet acts as she is in the process of several chemical changes inside her body. You may notice that she is less energetic and at times may be aloof. There could also be occasions when she would want beyond her fair share of attention. It would be pretty much similar to the behavior of a pregnant woman meaning that she will be more susceptible to ‘mood swings.’

Indicator number 2: Her appetite will vary. When your pet first starts conceiving, it will be normal for her to suffer a loss of her appetite. As the pups grow up, her preference for food will begin to recover immensely. If she was previously content with a cup or 2 cups per meal, this could double and she would wish to drink water more often. This is not the best time to put her on a diet. If possible, she should be turned to a diet higher in protein. You may move her back to puppy food as this is much higher in protein in comparison to adult dog food. Also at this time, her nipples will become larger and suppler. In addition to this, is the evident increase in your pet’s size; she will have the baby bump.

If all these signs and symptoms exist you should carry your pet dog back to the veterinarian. The animal medical practitioner will run various tests to examine the pregnancy of your doggy. One among the most popular tests is the ultrasound. This is immensely important as it is non-invasive and is healthy for both the mom and the pups. Likewise at approximately 25 days into the pregnancy, the animal’s body would release relaxin and this would manifest in endocrinological tests. You can also play doctor in case you have your stethoscope as you would be able to listen to the puppies’ heartbeats. This will not, on the other hand, tell you exactly the number of puppies she is carrying. If you really wish to find out, an x-ray scan can uncover this. On the other hand, this is not recommended as the radiation may have side effects on the puppies.

As your pet is approaching her due date, you may notice a white and odorless discharge. Also watch out for her actions as this would tell you if she is about to whelp (give birth). She could be restless at times and would start scratching the ground. This is an age-old instinct that she should start getting ready for a home for her pups. She can become more disturbed and would opt for dark and quiet places in your house. She may even bring her treasured bone or her toys to this location as she prepares for a new home for her puppies. Determine her temperature every once in a while. One day before she gives birth, her temperature could suddenly shift to 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

Right now, you should come to feel more confident and may have also recognized if your family pet is now an expecting mother. This should truly be a special experience for the whole family and perhaps for your family dog so make sure that you are fully prepared for your dog’s giving birth.

Are you wondering about the most important items to consider when choosing a new pet? Thinking about a new pet is exciting but there are a lot of things to keep in mind, especially if this is your first one.

Are you wondering about the most important items to consider when choosing a new pet? Thinking about a new pet is exciting but there are a lot of things to keep in mind, especially if this is your first one.

Allergies are a key concern for you and your family when deciding on your new pet. If someone in your household is allergic to an animal, trying to keep one of that type as a pet can create problems, especially if the symptoms cannot be controlled by medication. However, don’t let allergies automatically stop you from pursuing a pet. The person affected will likely not be allergic to all animals. Also, contemplate a less traditional type of pet such as a lizard or rat.

Initial investment budgets are another piece to think about. The price of the animal is the first thing that comes to mind. A rodent or reptile will be far less costly than a puppies in Toronto. Second to consider is the equipment such as a cage or kennels, leash and collar. Third, and sometimes forgotten, is whether veterinary care will be necessary. A puppy or kitten will need several visits for immunizations in their first year, but a rodent will likely never need vet service.

Continuing costs will also need reflection. Ask yourself how much you can afford to spend on a monthly basis to feed and care for an animal. A large animal will obviously be much more expensive to feed than a tank of fish. Also, small critters, like hamsters or parakeets do not require veterinary check-ups or shots, so there will be little or no future expenses for those types of animals.

The Toronto pet supplies market is enormous. Do not feel overwhelmed by all of the choices. When you first get your new family pet, buy only the items you initially need. For instance, if you’re getting a cat, a month’s supply of food, one or two toys, a collar and a litter box is enough to get started. You can later purchase extra toys, a scratching post, or other accessories. That way your initial purchasing budget will be more manageable.

Take into account how much space you need for the pet you are considering. An animal that lives in a tank or cage will be terrific in any size home. If you live in a an apartment, this type of pet may be the best choice for your family. Perhaps you have a large yard. In that case, you could accommodate even the largest dog. In this situation, the amount of room you have does not need to be a key factor in your decision process.

Before you finally decide on a pet, think about how much love and friendship you want to give and receive from your animal. If you are hoping to find a companion, dogs, cats and even birds make an excellent choice. These types of animals will form a bond of camaraderie with you and your family. However, if you are away from home frequently or do not have the desire for connection with your pet, a better choice may be a hamster, guinea pig or other small creature. These types of animals do not need relationships to be happy.

You are making an exciting decision, so think carefully and keep these things in mind as you proceed.

Everybody loves puppies. In Toronto puppies are the a popular 1st pet for couples, families and singles. Living in the city can be tough on a dog so as an owner. Make sure you visit Mississauga pet stores or a pet supplies store in Totonto to help care for your pet.

Tweet This Post

Shih Tzu dogs are perfect apartment-sized pets. Why? Because they only grow to 8 – 11 inches tall, and weigh about 9-16 pounds. So, if you are planning on getting yourself a new pet, maybe a Shih Tzu is the right dog for you however, there are a few things you will need to know about them.

Shih Tzu dogs are beautiful with their long flowing hair. Even their tails, which flip over their back, is also covered with that long mane of hair. Usually, because their hair covers their eyes, owners will pin the hair up into a pony-tail. While their muzzle hair is short, they look to have a mustache and a full beard.

Shih Tzu are attentive and energetic dogs. These dogs have wonderful personalities and are loyal to their families. They make friends easily and are simple to train. Eager to please, they can also make very good watch dogs. Courageous, clever, playful and spunky, this little dog loves to be with people and can be good with other pets. The Shih Tzu needs to have all the humans in his home as pack leaders making all the rules of the house very clear. Owners who let their dogs become pack leaders will notice them being snippy if they get upset or surprised.

Grooming your Shih Tzu must be done daily in order to keep their coat free of knots and tangles. Owners who keep their dogs hair longer, usually pull the long hair of the head into a topknot to keep it out of the eyes. Some may decide to trim the fur into a “puppy cut” which can alleviate the need to groom as much. It is very important however, that you keep the eyes and ears clean. There are eye drops you can get from your veterinarian if needed. If you suffer from pet dander allergies, this breed of dog is an excellent choice as they don’t shed very often.

Exercise is also very important for your Shih Tzu. Playtime can take care of many of their exercise needs they still need a daily walk. This helps with behavior problems, such as chewing or stress. Daily walks help burn off excess mental and physical energy, and allow them to become better tempered pets. Take care to feed your Shih Tzu at scheduled times. If allowed, this breed tends to overeat and will gain weight.

Liizie Belle has her own Shih Tzu, called Sydney, and enjoys sharing information on how to look after Shih Tzu Dogs.

The Staywell Dog Door is a great idea for anyone that has a pet and wants to be able to let them in and out. We got it a few years ago since we had to work and weren’t home to let the dog outside. At first before we got the door, we were coming home every day at lunch to let the dog out, and this wasn’t convenient at all. We knew we had to find another way to make this work.

We both sat down to look on the internet at the solutions. We found the Staywell Dog Door and decided to give it a try. It has worked out great since then. We don’t have to come home from work anymore and life has become much easier.

When we got the door, my husband was going to install it and I was going to help. I did what I could, but installing it was really pretty easy. You will have to have someone who is handy to install it, but it shouldn’t cost you very much. They come with directions, but it’s a job for someone who is handy in my opinion. I believe in letting people do what they are good at.

Once we got it installed, our dog was a little confused. It took it a while to get used to the door. It didn’t quite understand it at first, but after a day, it came around. Once the dog understood that they could go outside anytime they wanted to, they would just run in and out all day, which is another issue.

The door comes with a locking device that you can lock from the inside. We enforced this so she couldn’t just run out at night and do whatever she wanted. We wanted to make sure she was safe and didn’t go out at night and start barking either.

David loves writing about the staywell dog door, as well as citronella bark collar. Check out his sites at: Staywell Dog Door and Citronella Bark Collar.

Tweet This Post

Dog training should be started in the earliest months of a dog's life. Puppies are more easily trained than adult dogs.

Dog training should be started in the earliest months of a dog’s life. Puppies are more easily trained than adult dogs.

To begin, your dog should learn to wear the right sized collar. This means it should not be too large or small and should fit his or her neck.

A space the width of your thumb should be left between your dog’s neck and the collar.

On the puppy’s first day of wearing the collar, he or she will find it bothersome and likely try to remove it.

Your puppy will give up trying to remove the collar after several days and will begin to feel comfortable. Wait patiently for this to happen.

Attached to the collar is a leash which allows you to safely walk your puppy. A leash is a long cord which attaches to the puppy’s collar and allows you to dictate where your pet is able to go.

Your puppy will try to run away when let outside for the first time. That is why it is important to train the puppy to walk on a leash straight away.

Help your dog learn how far it can go on the leash. This length should be long enough that the puppy is free to move about and walk comfortably.

Stop whenever your puppy pulls. You should not tolerate bad behavior from your puppy.

When you stop walking, make your puppy come near you before you start walking again. If the puppy pulls again, repeat the process.

By stopping, you will frustrate the puppy and it will stop pulling. Eventually, the puppy will learn it cannot go far on the leash.

Repetition is the key to helping your puppy understand walking on a leash. Practice this exercise with your puppy at least five minutes at a time.

Training an adult dog is the same as training a puppy. But an adult dog can be more difficult than a puppy. So it is best to start training the dog as soon as you bring it home.
